Savannah Bananas (end of game)

Back in December, my best friend got an email about tickets for Savannah Bananas—and somehow her husband got one too. She asked if I wanted to go, and obviously my answer was YES. We didn’t get to sit together, but we did get to hang out for a bit, which made it worth it.

Now, I have to be honest about something… I am absolutely terrified of heights. Like, truly terrified. And apparently, so is William—I learned that last night. Our seats were basically at the very top. No real seats, just benches, and no handrails. I’m not exaggerating when I say I thought I might die up there. I had to sit still and breathe for a long time because I physically could not move.

Meanwhile, Charlotte thought the whole thing was hilarious and even took a video of me—I posted it on TikTok, of course.

At one point, Sam needed the bathroom, and Anthony went to get food. The food line? Insane. He was gone for an hour and a half. While we were waiting, William suddenly had to go to the bathroom too. We waited about 30 minutes, hoping Anthony would come back, but it became very clear that wasn’t happening.

So there I was… trying to figure out how I was going to carry everything, hold William’s hand, and somehow make it down those terrifying stairs—on a knee that’s already been through an ACL tear and an MCL injury. Not ideal.

But we did it.

We left our stuff behind, I grabbed my backpack, took William’s hand, and we went down those stairs one step at a time—without looking down. And somehow, we made it to the bathroom in time. No accidents. Major win.

Charlotte was not thrilled about waiting at the bottom for us, but honestly—I was proud of myself. And it’s a good thing we went when we did, because Anthony didn’t get back for another 30 minutes. And then, of course, about 20 minutes later… William had to go again. (He drank a LOT of water—it was hot.)

We watched the game, but I’ll admit—I was exhausted from only getting three hours of sleep, so I didn’t fully get into it. The kids and Anthony had a great time though, which is what matters. William? Hard to say.

Then came the adventure of getting back to the car.

I put the walking directions into my phone—but forgot to add the parking lot number. Anthony was already way ahead of us, so I rushed and entered it quickly… and it sent us TWO MILES in the wrong direction. After 45 minutes of walking, we realized our mistake.

At that point, Sam and I decided to run the two miles back while Anthony stayed with the kids (his leg was still bothering him from a previous run). So off we went.

We actually did it—two miles in about 25 minutes. Not bad ( Sam knew he could have went faster) until we couldn’t find the car.

We checked where I was absolutely convinced it was. Nothing. Walked farther. Still nothing. I kept hitting the lock button, listening for the beep—silence.

Finally, I called Courtney, and she told me it was farther back than I thought. Sure enough… there it was.

By the time we got in the car and started heading out, we saw Anthony and the kids walking, thumbs out like hitchhikers. I couldn’t even make that up if I tried.

For the record, I feel like I’m in shape—my heart rate recovers quickly—but I am definitely not a fast runner. Two miles in 25 minutes, plus another 10 wandering around looking for the car… humbling.

At one point during the run, Sam said, “I guess we just live here now.”And later he declared he never wants to come back to College Station again. The nightlife is… intense. We ran straight through crowds of people, and yes, we definitely got some looks (and laughs).

But honestly? It was an experience.

And after all of that, Sam and I decided we’re going to start running together. Maybe even work toward a marathon next year.

Let’s see how strong I can get.
