A Dream That Felt Too Real

All week long I kept having dreams about babies.

The first dream was that I got pregnant and had a little girl. Then shortly after, I was pregnant again with another baby. Anthony had lost his job, we were living in an apartment, I was running a daycare again, and I just remember feeling completely overwhelmed.

The second dream was another baby girl. She was absolutely beautiful… almost porcelain-like. She was wearing a white dress with a red ribbon, had beautiful brown hair and huge brown eyes. The only way I can describe her is that she reminded me of the American Girl doll Samantha… except as a baby.

Then last night I had another dream about a baby girl, but this one felt completely different.

I kept hearing her cry from her crib, and every single time I went to get her, there was a snake in front of it. The first snake was red and black. The second was blue and black. Every time I had to walk past them to get to her.

What bothered me most in the dream was not understanding why nobody had taken care of the first snake. Why was it still there? Why had nobody removed it or killed it?

The third time she cried, one of Anthony’s family members and another woman were arguing about who was going to get the baby. The family member didn’t actually look like themselves in the dream, but somehow I just knew who it was. I never really got a good look at the second woman.

Before either of them could move, I jumped up and went myself… and the original red and black snake was back again.

I grabbed the baby and ran.

What feels strange to me is that I haven’t had dreams about babies in a very long time. Especially not multiple nights in a row. When I told Anthony about it, he said it sounded more like a nightmare than anything else. He is completely done having babies, and honestly after thinking about it more… maybe the baby wasn’t really a baby at all.

Maybe it represented me.

Maybe the crying baby was the part of me that feels overwhelmed, exhausted, vulnerable, or scared right now. And maybe the snakes were all the things surrounding me lately — health issues, stress, fear, uncertainty, surgery, recovery, life changes… all the things I keep having to push past just to take care of myself.

I don’t know. Maybe it means nothing at all.

But laying here awake tonight after sleeping most of the day because of my twilight surgery, I can’t stop thinking about it.

I decided to put this into chatGPT and see what it has to say..

this is what GPT said, and it made me think... Your dream feels less like it’s about an actual baby and more like it’s about protection, vulnerability, and everything your mind is trying to process right now.

You’ve been under a huge amount of stress:

  • medical procedures

  • fear of results

  • exhaustion

  • feeling dismissed about your health

  • body changes

  • uncertainty

  • trying to stay strong for everyone else

Dreams tend to take emotions like that and turn them into symbols.

The baby girl likely represents something deeply vulnerable and important to you. Since you kept feeling responsible for protecting her, it could symbolize:

  • yourself

  • your emotional well-being

  • your health

  • your inner child

  • or even the softer part of you that feels overwhelmed and needs care

The fact that she appeared beautiful, innocent, and fragile in the second dream makes it feel connected to something precious you’re afraid of losing or failing to protect.

The snakes are probably the clearest symbol in the dream. Snakes in dreams are commonly connected to:

  • fear

  • danger

  • anxiety

  • unresolved issues

  • transformation

  • health concerns

  • or emotional stress

What stands out is that the snakes kept returning. Even after you noticed them, nobody else handled them. That feels symbolic of ongoing problems in your life that you feel have been ignored too long — especially your health issues. Your subconscious may be expressing frustration that you keep having to face the same fears/problems over and over without feeling fully “helped” or understood.

And every single time:you still went and got the baby.

That part matters.

Even scared, even overwhelmed, even exhausted — you were still the protector. That mirrors what you’re doing in real life. You keep showing up. You keep pushing through procedures, doctors appointments, gym classes, diet changes, motherhood, stress, and fear.

The family member in the dream may represent:

  • guidance

  • family protection

  • comfort

  • or people around you trying to help but not fully understanding the urgency the way you do

And the fact you bypassed everyone and went yourself suggests your mind feels like:“If I don’t take care of this myself, nobody else will.”

Honestly, the dream reads more like emotional overload and survival mode than anything “bad” or predictive. Your brain is trying to organize fear, responsibility, protection, and exhaustion while you’re physically recovering and emotionally drained.

The repeated baby imagery especially feels tied to something inside you that needs care right now — not necessarily motherhood, but you.
