Strength Really Looks Like
Tonight, someone told me how strong I am.
I smiled, thanked them, and accepted the compliment because that's what I've learned to do.
But the truth is, strength doesn't always feel strong.
Sometimes strength looks like showing up when every part of you wants to disappear. Sometimes it looks like getting dressed, doing your job, celebrating someone else's joy, and saving your tears for the drive home.
People see the woman who keeps going. They don't see the battles that never seem to end. They don't see the wounds that have never fully healed or the heartbreak that quietly follows me into every room.
I've become so good at carrying heavy things that people mistake survival for peace.
Tonight I stood surrounded by love and celebration, listening to people tell me how resilient I am. And all I could think was, if you only knew how close I feel to falling apart.
Maybe that's the strange thing about strength. It isn't the absence of pain. It's waking up every morning, putting one foot in front of the other, and choosing to keep going even when your heart is exhausted.
So if you've ever looked at someone and thought, "They have it all together," remember this:
Some of the strongest people you know are carrying stories they'll never tell out loud.
And sometimes, the strongest person in the room is the one quietly wondering how much longer they can hold themselves together.
