What a Freaking Day!
It started at 4 a.m. for me. We were only in California for a few days, so apparently my body decided it was going to stay on Texas time. I felt terrible because I was going to bed by 8 every night, but no matter what I did, my brain was wide awake at 4 a.m. every morning. Today was no different.
We got out of bed at 5 a.m. to get ready for the airport. We arrived around 6:30, only to be greeted with a flight delay. And then another delay. And another. It was one thing after the next!
At one point, I seriously considered whether we should just drive to San Diego instead. It honestly seemed like it would be faster at that point! But one of the airline employees told us that if we didn't make our first flight, our second flight would be canceled. So, we decided our best option was to stay at the airport and make a day of it.
And by make a day of it I mean we ate, drank, and then ate and drank some more. We spaced everything out enough that I never got drunk, although I did get a little sleepy at one point. Honestly, what else were we supposed to do? We had HOURS to kill!
Now, here we are, finally on the plane, with a little less than an hour left in our flight. It is 7:50 p.m. California time, which means we have spent about 13 hours dealing with airports and airplanes today. THIRTEEN HOURS!
I am so ready to be home.
Aubrey is picking us up when we land. While we were gone, she got a new tattoo. I just don't understand. 😂 I mean, I know she is an adult and can make her own choices, but sometimes I look at my kids and wonder what on earth is going through their heads!
Speaking of my kids, Ava barely talked the entire 40 hours she was with us. And anything and everything I said seemed to put her on the defensive. I never quite knew what to say or how to act without feeling like I had said something wrong.
My whole family needs some counseling. Seriously.
And the funny thing is, I have therapy tomorrow! I have so much to do that I honestly don't know how I am going to fit everything in. Between everything going on with the family, work, and my own life, there is plenty to talk about.
This week and next week are already packed with photography sessions. On top of that, our music teacher just quit, which means I will be taking on more at work to help get everything ready for our October performance.
But despite the airport nightmare and all the emotions that came with this trip, these four days off have been amazing. It was so nice to get away, celebrate Ava's birthday, spend time with Marissa and Zuriel, and have Anthony mostly to myself.
I really needed that.
Now, if we can just get through the rest of this flight, get picked up, and make it home without any more surprises, I can finally crawl into my own bed.
And then, apparently, I get to wake up and jump right back into real life tomorrow.
Wish me luck. I'm going to need it!
